Drop Cap #1 Process

When starting this Drop Cap, I really wasn't sure in which direction I wanted to go. I knew that I wanted to make an uppercase "G," since it is one of my favorite letterforms. I began my process by sketching the letter "G" aimlessly and sloppily to see what parts of the letter would begin to stand out.

I then began to fine tune the design of the "G" until I liked the result. From there, I recreated the design in illustrator, and started to think about what I wanted it to look like when it was finished.

At this point I decided that I wanted the feel of the final image to be a combination of delicateness and homeyness. I added a background of woodgrain and a jagged piece of tape to try and convey this.

After critique on Wednesday, I decided to add more texture in the background and within the letter itself. I changed around the drop shadow and the curve of the letter in order to create more depth.

And that's where my Drop Cap rests for the time being. Any suggestions would be much appreciated :)
